Why does the point move?
Learning to divide a natural number by 10 or 100 becomes much easier with this activity. This activity is especially designed to help 5th-grade students achieve more lasting learning through practice.
Our number system is based on **powers of 10**. When you divide by 10, each digit in the number becomes 10 times smaller. In terms of position, this looks like the decimal point moving to the left.
The “Hidden” Decimal
Did you know that every whole number has a “hidden” decimal point at the very end? For example, **45** is actually **45.0**. Knowing this makes moving the point much easier!
